The Story of
Our WORKSHOPS
MOSAIC Activities combine exploration and digital experimentation through visits to significant Arab historical sites (including a 5-day training in Còrdoba) and workshops on digital storytelling for youth for the collaborative creation of a collective video podcast and an interactive digital map in each country.
Training in Cordoba
One staff member and two young participants from each country took part in a 5 days training programme hosted by Casa Arabe from February 23–27, 2025 in Còrdoba – historic centre of Arab civilization in Europe – to deepen the understanding of Arab heritage and learn ways to transmit to young people and build a narrative using digital tools (interactive map and video podcasts). This activity included guided tours to historical sites like Medina Azahara, the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos and Miraflores archaeological excavations, and key sessions focused on the historical context of Al-Andalus. During this occasion, workshops focusing on digital mapping techniques and digital storytelling methods were held to better support the teams in each country to support young participants during the workshop.
Mapping with downloadable mapping outputs
A group of young participants aged 16-25 from each country explored historical sites connected to Arab culture and worked together to create an interactive digital map using the online platform Padlet to collect and pinpoint sites that for architectural relevance or personal experiences were found to be distinctive of Arab cultural heritage in Rome, Kilis, Còrdoba, and Malta. Each online Padlet map presents a variety of places related to diverse areas of Arab culture broadening from architecture, art, food, everyday habits, religion and even words.
Workshops
A series of workshops were organized with a group of 15 young people in each country to learn how to narrate a story through vlogs. These workshops explored how to create a well-organized and flowing story, how this is built in digital formats, and some basic techniques to structure and shoot their own videopodcast. During this activity, young people were asked to lead the creative process by brainstorming the themes that were felt more important as Arab second-generation youth living in Italy, Spain, Türkiye, and Malta to not only share their traditions but also express their personal story and reflections on how they navigate their own identities and how they cultivate a sense of belonging within a new cultural environment.
